The global financial crisis has evolved into a worldwide recession of epic proportions. Analysts fear the sudden slump which has followed the credit crunch could even rival the Great Depression of the early 1930s and lead to global stagnation.

India and France are official nuclear partners in nuclear civil cooperation programme
Paris, 30 Sep 2008 : India's nuclear isolation officially ended on Tuesday with a historic agreement being signed between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and French President Nicholas Sarkozy.
Pitched as part of a wider strategic relationship, a joint statement released by both countries said co-operation is now possible in the areas of nuclear fuel, trade and security.
Karan Billimoria: First Parsi to enter UK Parliament
India-born beer baron Karan Bilimoria will on 24th July formally "take his seat" in the House of Lords, making him the first Parsi to enter the British Parliament's upper house.
Bilimoria, the owner of Cobra beer, became Lord Bilimoria CBE, of Chelsea, after being granted peerage on June 16. He will now take his seat in the upper house as a "cross bencher" - that is, without any party affiliation.
Belgium honours Indian businessman
Brussels, July 21 Belgium has awarded its highest civilian honour to Antwerp-based Indian-origin diamantaire Dilip Mehta, CEO of the world's largest diamond company Rosy Blue.
Mehta has been chosen for the prestigious title of 'baron' in Belgium's annual honours list. The selection was made by the Belgian Foreign Ministry and the Belgian Royal Palace. The announcement comes ahead of Belgium's national day on July 21.
Mehta told INEP agency: "This a great honour for Antwerp's Indian diamond community. I feel lucky to have been spotted in this nice contribution of India. This is a global recognition of the Indian rise."

Antwerp, June 27 2006: The flourishing Indian origin diamond business community in this Belgium port city - one of the diaspora's most prosperous success stories - has donated two children's projects in appreciation of their host country.
The Antwerp Indian Association (AIA) here donated a state-of-the-art computer room to a local school and a high-tech movie room to a children's hospital in an effort to foster integration and give something back to the country.The AIA, at a function on Friday in one of Belgium's leading local Flemish-speaking schools, Onze Lieve Vrowe (OLV) College, donated a computer room.
