Things are under control in Australia: Vayalar Ravi

New Delhi, June 23:  After at least 15 Indian students were attacked in Australia during the past one month, Minister of Overseas Affairs Vayalar Ravi Tuesday said things are under control in the continent except for 'stray incidents here or there'.

'The Australian officials have come to meet me to assure that the Indian students have the full protection of the Australian government. Things are under control except for stray incidents here or there,' Ravi told reporters after his meeting with Australian official Lisa Paul.

Australia, India move towards free trade deal

Melbourne, May 20 The Australia-India Free Trade Agreement (FTA) may come through as early as next year with Australian Trade Minister Simon Crean and India's Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath Tuesday agreeing that the FTA feasibility study report would be presented to the government by the year-end.

"We welcome the good momentum established in the joint FTA feasibility study and (are) committed to adopting a bold and ambitious approach to the study," said Crean.

Australian PM wants better ties with India

Sydney, Feb 21 (IANS) Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has reiterated the government's resolve to take the bilateral relationship with India to a new high, but ruled out expanding the trilateral security dialogue between Australia, the US and Japan to include India.

In an interview on Australian foreign policy to Jim Middleton on ABC Radio Canberra's 'Newshour' programme, Rudd said: 'I welcome the current level of dialogue and cooperation between those three governments (Washington, Tokyo and Canberra). But I believe that's where it most appropriately should stand into the future.'

Auckland, April 4 2006: Anand Satyanand, a former ombudsman and judge, has been named New Zealand's next Governor-General. He will take charge after present Governor-General Dame Silvia Cartwright's term ends on August 4 this year.

Welcoming the appointment, New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clarke said: "Judge Satyanand will bring many personal strengths to the role of governor-general, including a broad knowledge of the workings of government and the law, as well as a deep appreciation of the different groups and communities which make up contemporary New Zealand.
